How to measure outdoor humidity in HVAC applications

Buildings and Indoor Air Quality
Industrial Measurements

Humidity measurements are used in many control strategies to reduce energy consumption in building automation and control systems. What difference does the selection and installation of outdoor humidity sensors cause in HVAC applications?

Summary

Evaporative cooling and economizers are widely used and also required by some standards. However, not all humidity sensors are suitable for this type of measurement. The drift of the sensor, as well as measurement errors caused by a less than ideal installation, can reduce the potential energy savings significantly.

Join us in a free 45-minute Vaisala webinar to learn:

  • Ways to save energy by using evaporative cooling and free cooling
  • Selecting a suitable outdoor humidity sensor
  • Error sources that can reduce or eliminate energy savings
