Sodium dichromate evaporation efficiency control

Sodium dichromate, Na2Cr2O7·2H2O, is widely used when manufacturing chromium metal, magnetic tapes, tanning of leather, as a preservation compound for timber, metal finishing, pigments for plastic and ceramic industry, as well for corrosion prevention and in oil and detergent industry.

Sodium dichromate is obtained from ground chromite roasted with soda and oxidized, and then quenched with water. Sodium dichromate is extracted with sulfuric acid to produce a commercially pure solution.

Vaisala Polaris™ Process Refractometer is used to ensure the concentration of sodium dichromate, in particular, by controlling the evaporation efficiency and the heat-flow and feed valves to keep a constant concentration.
